Twitter is filled with highly active accounts that get incredible amounts of engagement. Here I will break down some accounts that I follow which cultivate creative and interesting content.
These accounts vary in topic, involving anything from music to sports.
Each ranking includes an embedded tweet for the aforementioned account.
1. SHREK KNOWS RAP (@SHREKRAP)
This user creates an image of themselves as the character “Shrek” from the Shrek films. They consistently tweet about music, specifically rap, and give their opinions on artists. My taste in music in generally in line with Shrek’s, so it is a great place for me to find new artists and songs. Shrek has just over 150,000 followers and accelerates careers of many upcoming artists greatly. While the page may not always be safe for work (SFW), it is still a valuable follow if you enjoy rap music.
2. Josh Cashman (@CableThanos_)
Josh Cashman’s rise to popularity came in the form of video edits surrounding the Seattle Seahawks. His comedic style of videos are filled with memes and never fail to entertain. Though he only has 28.6K followers, he is widely known as the “President of Seahawks’ Twitter.” In the 2018-2019 NFL season, he made new entertaining videos nearly every week. His notoriety rose even further after Russell Wilson, the Seahawks’ quarterback, collaborated with him on a few projects. He even appeared in an Alaska Airlines commercial with the football star.
3. Jared Carrabis (@Jared_Carrabis)
Sticking to sports, Jared Carrabis is a popular figure who hosts two podcasts (Section 10 Podcast & Starting 9) for Barstool Sports. His sarcastic Twitter bio includes “Unbiased National Baseball Journalist,” but anyone who follows him will recognize his loyalty to the Red Sox fanbase. As a Red Sox fan myself, I enjoy reading his takes on the game. In 2018, the Red Sox won the World Series. During the season, Carrabis energized the Boston fanbase so much that he was invited to join the team on their victory parade through the city. With over 300,000 followers, Carrabis continues to be a loud voice for Red Sox Nation.
4. The Onion (@TheOnion)
The onion is one of the most commonly known satirical news source on the web. With 11.5 Million followers, The Onion pumps out several comedic headlines and articles every day. Though most articles show clear satirical tells, many people will fall for their jokes, making themselves out to be fools. In fact, so many people have fallen for it that there is a subreddit where people share images of people mistaking what they read for fact. r/AteTheOnion hosts almost 500k members that all find these moments entertaining.
5. WeRateDogs (dog_rates)
Let’s be honest, everyone likes dogs. WeRateDogs is an account that posts pictures of dogs that include captions about what they like and rates them out of ten. Of course, no dog deserves any less than ten, so they rate almost every dog above ten, normally 13 or 14/10. Seeing a cute dog on your timeline is a quick break from the usual drama of Twitter, so I would definitely recommend following them. WeRateDogs has 8.8 million followers and sells cute merch with phrases like “I miss my dogs.” Overall consensus, 15/10.
